Justice
The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.
We live in a world with vast amounts of inequality. In America, we are taught that justice is blind and that it is a fundamental pillar that keeps our civilization from breaking down. However, the belief that our justice system is based solely on laws, precedents, and institutions is a comforting lie we tell ourselves.
From a personal standpoint, justice is easier to define. We should strive to find justice whenever we can, not for retribution—which only brings more pain—but for true fairness. We cannot fix thousands of years of flawed legal processes overnight, nor should we aim to. However, the most important action anyone can take when faced with injustice is to fight it.
Whether for friends, family, community neighbors, fellow citizens, or any human being, we must stand together. We are all unique, yet interconnected. We should not abandon just causes or people who deserve justice simply because the current laws say otherwise or because it has been accepted as justice in the past.
There will always be injustice in our world as long as humanity exists. We are not a perfect species. Nevertheless, we must continually strive to find justice for what we deem worthy. The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.
